Position Summary | As a nationally accredited program with a strong educational component in The University of New Mexico School of Medicine, the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) investigates any death occurring across the state of New Mexico that is sudden, violent, untimely, unexpected or where a person is found dead and the cause of death is unknown. The OMI, which is a special program within the Department of Pathology, determines the cause and manner of death in these cases, and provides formal death certification. OMI is currently seeking a motivated, organized and skillful person to fill the position of Administrative Assistant 3 for our Grief Services Program. The OMI Grief Services Program focuses on providing counseling, information, referrals, advocacy, and emotional support to those dealing with the sudden death of someone they love. This program provides short-term counseling and referral to community grief support groups or long-term counseling options. These services are provided at no cost to families. The individual in this role will perform and oversee a range of associated administrative functions for the Grief Services Department. They will serve as a central liaison with department staff and families of decedents experiencing trauma, grief and loss, requiring excellent customer service skills, empathy, de-escalation, resilience, and patience. They will coordinate and facilitate meetings and program functions, and manage appointment scheduling for Counselors/Social Workers appropriate to Grief Services Program guidelines. Due to the sensitive nature of the service we provide, discretion and confidentiality are paramount in this position. This person may be responsible for completing tasks which require specialized knowledge and skills, such as budget administration and control, equipment, inventory management, recordkeeping and database management. Minimum Qualifications | High school diploma or GED; at least 5 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified. Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis. |
